Joe Rockhead’s is a bouldering and route gym in Downtown Toronto. The facility is over 10,000 square feet in size, giving you plenty of space to climb, train, stretch or whatever you want. Rockhead’s is the oldest gym in the country, opening in 1990! They recently renovated the entire gym, adding more climbing space, retexturing all of the walls, and using many more modern climbing holds. This is honestly such an amazing gym, everyone should go check it out!
Overall Experience / Vibe
In my opinion, the community at this gym is the best in the city. The Joe Rockhead’s members and climbers are very supportive, and excited about climbing. I always find myself meeting other people here! I love the colours of the walls and holds. The holds all look brand new, and have a very diverse colour scheme. You know when you go to a gym, and the walls and holds are just different shades of brown, and it’s a little depressing to be there? Yeah. Well you won’t get that at Rockhead’s. In fact, just being in the climbing area is likely to put a smile on your face.
Quality of Routes
The routes and boulders at Joe’s are always a blast. The holds are super modern, and are great for competition practice. Their competition wall is reset weekly, so you’ll never be bored. The wall angles are great as well, giving you tons of different overhangs to climb on, as well as some less aggressive wall angles! The same team of setters at Up the Bloc set at Joe Rockhead’s, so both gyms have a similar style.

If you are a beginner, you will also enjoy the beauty of the gym, you should check it out too! Enjoy climbing at Joe Rockhead’s.
